Baah Baah Bag Sheep

I admit, I'm not the biggest fan of anything a la designer-label whore. Above all, that would include Louis Vuitton anything.

However, I must admit I'm strangely attracted to their F/W 06 accessories line. I think I'm either having a temporary lack of common sense or I've been working in a law office for too long and I've lost all sense of style. This line is especially the 'anti' of everything I hate about logo-ed designer wear: narcissism and ... the logo. The LV Mirror bags are the ultimate in narcissism and that moniker plastered all over their bags that make them oh-so-popular is what makes them oh-so-pricey ($500 - 1500 CAD).

Let this be a warning to y'all that there is gonna be a lot of these tin-foil diddies on the arms of many girls and their mothers (but definitely not mine!) so get those shades on. There's already a waiting list and they come out in December! But of course, there will be more fakes than real ones, no doubt.

Speaking of losing common sense, I shamelessly purchased my very first 'luxury item' a few weeks ago from Holt's. Not extravagant or anything (unfortunately it is monogrammed). I actually almost forgot about it and didn't open the package until today, that's how 'uneventful' it was for me (although it's a pretty useful little thing). It wasn't as thrilling as I thought it would be (so why is the experience so hyped up? Because women are minions to fashion!) but I don't doubt that this will be my last luxury item purchase.

I don't really know where my principles are anymore. Lately I've been finding myself caught between common sense and being a sheep.

The Reason why Long Weekends were invented...

I am seriously the Master of Getting Things Done when there is way too much that needs to be done in such little time. I truly astound myself with what I can do when I'm motivated and focused.

The numbers for this weekend...

-3 Thanksgiving dinners

-2 assignments to be completed

-3 desserts to be made

-1 night to club and lose the weight before I put on more weight from the 3 dinners

My long (doesn't seem so long) weekend began last night. We went to the Docks, it was good. Stayed there for quite awhile though, but that's what you get when you put me, Jon and Megan at a dance club because we're dancing robots (keep going and going...). The usual clubbing antics were had: guys who can't dance that try to dance with me (some huge bear-like guy tried dancing with me but it felt more like a bear hug), this guy I dissed/rejected the last time we were there was there again and turned out to be Jon's friend from school (awkward), I accidently punched this guy in the face because I was really into this song (and he never came back) and I'm beginning to realize that I'm probably getting taller or the guys seem to be getting shorter.

Got home around 4 am, overslept till 11 (my impaired hearing from last night caused me not to hear my alarm clock), washed my hair, made pie crust and went downtown at 12:30 for a little shopping and to meet Ish to finish our assignment, came home, finished baking my very first apple pie (success!), went to my boss' house for Dinner #1 (which was actually a Ramadan dinner. Happy Ramadan), went to Captain's and then for once, I was the chauffeur with three men in my back seat (a true test to my suspension). Whew! I'm so pleased I got everything that needed to be done, done.

Now, I gotta start all this running around again tomorrow. Just another day in the life of yours truly.

Agenda for tomorrow:

- Make another apple pie for Dev's dinner

- Make another tiramisu for Dev's dinner (more alcohol this time!)

- read Hobbes and Rousseau text for my Philosophy paper

- do my Philosophy paper

- dinner at Dev's

- hopefully drop by Vicki's party (oh, why did it have to be on Sunday?)

- breathe

Getting older or going backwards?

^Aahhh, thank you for looking like you live in the 21st century
Hooray, the best thing from the era of bubblegum pop/boybands/pseudo-named girlbands has made a return! Huzzah!
All Saints - "Rock Steady"

I like the song, but my only complaint is, what is up with the 40's trend as of late? It's everywhere: Christina Aguilera, Christian Louboutin Bruge shoes, pearls, that hair, the red lipstick (bleccch!). I feel like everything should be in black and white. Why are we constantly trying to escape the present?

Pics from Ish's bday:

^Pekwin, Nish and Ish (Nish and Ish aren't twins, can you believe that?)
^Raymond tries to explain to me and Ish the complexities of Dice
^The ladies at Urban Lounge: so much alcohol and I happened to be DD that night
^Raymond: wayyyy too into explaining Dice

So, noone told you Life was gonna be this way...

This morning I woke up at 6 am for my 8 am class. Only I didn't get up. I went back to bed. I decided that just this once I would take a day off from school, which is quite the shocker. I'm not usually the type who skips class unless it's for a really good reason (weather, and very rarely, illness) and not for a selfish reason, as I did this morning.

I just really did not feel like going to class so early (and so cold!) in the morning and then have to go to work right after. Just this once I decided that I owed it to myself to sleep in and miss class after only a month of starting school.

I think I'm starting to realize why people are amazed that I would even dare work and go to school at the same time. It's really burning me out. It's not because I'm overloaded at school (I'm really not, but assignments are starting to become due soon), it's more of the physical overload. It's the running around I have to do every week. School in the morning, bus down to work as I scarf down a meal, work until late into the night while I make the usual runs to the bank and post office for any closings. Not to mention that I have to get dressed up 4 times a week. AND I work on Saturdays. *sigh. And now, I'm being given more responsibility at work, like meeting with clients by myself and handling closings on my own. In some cases, it's good. In alot of cases, it's bad.

I really shouldn't complain because I should've seen this coming and I should appreciate all the experience I'm getting, but I really wonder if this is all worth it and if I should just quit (yes, of course it's worth it, Lil! Hours needed to graduate! The money! The job-security post graduation!). I'm not really the type to quit after I've committed to something, but I know many people who, if they were in my situation, would quit. Now I have to really wonder if it's to escape hard work or just common sense.

Piece of cake!

Aah, another festive eating occasion is bestowed upon us this coming weekend: Thanksgiving! Another excuse to get together with friends to cook and eat and make fun of Alex. A combination of my favourite things to do rolled into one weekend! This year I volunteered to lend a hand in the festivities by making desserts for Dev's annual Turkey Day dinner. Yes, baking is not my most favourite type of cooking to do, but I have to advance past the 'making cupcakes from the box' stage and at least try something from scratch. One of the things I hate about baking is the not being able to control the outcome during the cooking process. It's all about putting the batter into the oven and hoping it turns out when it comes back out. Yours truly is not a hoper. She's a do-er and a controller. So, I've opted to go oven-less and make a tiramisu (an Italian layered coffee-and-cheese trifle, for all you dessert-illiterate). Aaaannd, I guess I'll attempt to make an apple pie, since I heard it was oh-so-easy. But I'm more excited about this tiramisu. While I should have probably worked on my assignment on the confines of a Joint Venture and Partnership agreement, all weekend I've been browsing websites and my endless collection of cookbooks for a simple, yet challenging recipe for this thing. It's basically not that hard, just a matter of getting the best ingredients, knowing what a 'hard peak' is and layering. I've also realized there are different types of tiramisu, so I've been debating over a basic or strawberry tiramisu. I'm gonna be testing out a few recipes this week. so I'm calling out to all the dessert guinea pigs! One of the things that attract people to desserts is the presentation. Tiramisu can come in many forms: in a cup, in glass bowl, in a pan... what a versatile dessert! It'd probably be a waste of time to 'go all out' with this dessert for my friends since it'll just either be eaten or ignored anyway. ...Here's hoping my turns out as good as this looks.
